Feature Article – The Best Is Yet To Come

For the first time in my life, I find myself surrounded by examples of people in wonderful partnership relationships, primarily long lasting marriages. Take Don and Barbara. I think they’ve been married 60+ years. I hadn’t seen Barbara since her very long hospital stay that began in mid-December! I finally made it a point to bring over some flowers and spend some time with frail little Barbara. Barbara and Don are models for Robert and I. Their relationship is such an example of a solid, deep, abiding love. After that visit I was so moved with the depth of their relationship. They have 6 adult children and are into the great-grandchildren phase of life. Don cares for Barbara with unfailing faith that her strength will return.

Witnessing this type of depth transcends words, really. The atmosphere was full of knowing and enduring. Words fail me as I try to express their union.

Then there are my in-laws. Another example of two lovers who’ve been through a full life of ups and downs. There’s a stability and enduring quality that is so grounding and comforting. They’ve produced children who have visions of partnerships based on communication, mutual respect, laughter and love.

By contrast, there are households in which many of us have been raised where strife, arguing and anxiety are a daily occurrence. Interestingly, in either case, there’s no “guarantee” that we’ll model our parents. Failed marriages and relationships still occur when the model was stable and based on love and mutual values and respect.

Is It A Magic Formula?

So what’s going on there? They seem to have the magic formula nailed down. Was it always easy? I doubt it. However, they have continued to create and re-create possibility in their relationships. I’m sure life was not all sweet and wonderful for them. But they went back to the source of who they are in relationship with each other.

So why is it different for many of us? We all came into this life experience wanting a little bit of this and a little bit of that. To mix it up. Granted, we seem to be awakening into a higher reality where we can choose more of what we really prefer, rather than going on creation-by-default setting. We’ve learned to use the contrast as a point of distinction; using the contrast of a failed relationship to better define what we want in a relationship that works, is full of love and open communication.

Certainly the contrast is good information. But what if you’ve had enough contrast and you don’t know what to do next? If you’ve read “Create the Love of Your Dreams” or you’ve been studying any of the Law of Attraction teachers, we all say, keep your nose pointed in the direction of what it feels like to already have what it is you want.

Easier Said than Done

I’ll grant you that sometimes it seems easier said than done. That’s where having a practice and an accountability comes into play. Why live life feeling at the effect of it rather than at the Source of it? Find a group, or a buddy with whom you can co-create some juicy relationship intentions and keep each other accountable for your words and actions.

There’s always one-on-one coaching. It’s not like therapy that some people continue for years and years. Coaching is designed to empower you to see where you need to tweak your vibration and get the most out of your own personal inner powers so you can create the life of your dreams.

• The Relationship Whisperer Workshop May 16, 17 in Raleigh, North Carolina

A few years ago I read a wonderful book entitled “Riding Between the Worlds” by Linda Kohanov. This book explores the relationship between horses and people with the emphasis on people finding their authentic selves and healing from dysfunctional pasts. I was taken by an almost mystical quality of the author’s understanding of horses and people. That was before I understood more deeply about all of our interconnectedness, with people, animals, nature, all aspects of the seen and unseen.

So you can imagine my surprise and delight when after a talk I was giving on the Law of Attraction and Relationships a woman came up to me and told me what kind of work she does. My new friend, Schelli Whitehouse, coaches individuals and groups in Professional Equine Assisted Coaching Experience (PEACE). That may sound like a mouthful and perhaps even peculiar to you. I had my first experience a couple days ago and I can tell you it’s really very practical and telling. A short article will hardly give you the depth of my experience. Suffice it to say, that I’m so excited about the possibilities that Schelli and I are teaming up to do a Two Day Workshop on the material in my best selling book, Create the Love of Your Dreams, and Schelli’s work, The Way of the Horse. That probably won’t be the name of the workshop. But we DO have the dates. May 16 and 17th in Raleigh, North Carolina. And the price is AFFORDABLE.
