What Kind of Super Hero Are You?
We all love those action movies where good triumphs over evil. Have you ever considered that you can be a Super Hero?
I’ve seen a few emails and posts lately making reference to Super Heroes. Would that be because many of us feel the need to escape into fantasy thinking? I don’t think so. I think it’s more because we’re looking for something more in life – more meaning, more possibility and more personal power.
My Joy Walks
On Wednesdays, I have the delightful pleasure of going on walk with my good friend, Joy. I changed my power walks to Joy walks and then a new friend named Joy showed up. Now they’re really Joy-filled walks. We have the greatest sessions. It’s high quality conversation. Joy has been working with an eight-year old boy who has Asperger’s Syndrome and high-functioning autism. Joy is such a light, and heart-centered person and her 8 year old ward asked her one day, “Joy, can I ask you a question, and I really need you to tell me the truth. Do Super Heros really exist?” Joy responded, “Of course they exist. And what’s so wonderful is that there are so many more Super Heros than we even know! ” He responded “I know. You know how I know? Because I’m a Super Hero, too. But don’t tell anyone okay”? Joy replied, “I know! And you know what is cool? I’m a Super Hero, too”!
They both promised not to give away each other’s secret identity.
The 8 year-old Super Hero wanted to what know Joy’s Super Powers were. Joy said, “Well, Love and Peace are my Super Powers”. The young one wanted to know how that could defeat bad guys and criminals. Joy told him “Sweetheart, because Love and Peace are the most powerful energies in the world!”
That’s the kind of conversations we have on our Joy Walks. How super-fabulous, wouldn’t you say?
We All Want Heros
I watched Katie Couric’s segment on 60 Minutes last Sunday in which she interviewed Captain Sullenberger, the now-famed US Airways pilot who landed on the Hudson River five minutes after take off. Every member of the passenger and crew were safe, with only a few injuries.
Couric asked Captain Sullenberger why he had a hard time being called a hero. And how many people felt the need to look to him as a true hero. She asked him “what can you embrace about being called a hero?” He replied, “You know, people want good news. They want to feel hopeful again”.
Amen. People want to Good News! Folks turn off the TV and create something else. Create some good news and share it. Spread it around.
